Dear Editor:

I am pleased to write in support of Alyssa Allen, a candidate for the one-year position on the Boothbay Harbor Board of Selectmen. I’ve known and interacted with Alyssa for many years, in my past capacities as director of the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce and a business development specialist with the Maine Dept. of Economic and Community Development, as well as in my current business and economic development consulting work. I believe Alyssa possesses an impressive breadth of experience and a thoughtful, positive outlook that would make her an excellent addition to the selectboard.

With deep work experience in several local hospitality businesses, Alyssa knows the value of this industry to our community. As a business development officer for First National Bank, Alyssa’s work experience has broadened further, providing her with an enviable understanding of the wide variety of heritage and emerging industries that are present on the peninsula, and how this diversity supports a balanced, sustainable economy. Alyssa’s commitment to helping others is evidenced by her many years donating her time to an impressive number of community events and organizations. Having grown up in Boothbay Harbor, and now raising her son here, Alyssa understands local issues, the importance of a quality education, and how business, education and community can work together to support the overall health of our region.

In recent discussions with her, Alyssa impressed me with her thoughtful, considered approach to how she would serve the town as a selectman. She listens very well. She is respectful of other’s opinions and ideas. She works collaboratively and is recognized as a team player. She is positive, energetic, and open-minded, and is not at all afraid to roll up her sleeves, dig into details, and spend the time necessary to make a project successful.

A wealth of experience. An unwavering commitment to community. A desire to honor and build upon our traditions, with creativity, balance, and an openness to new ideas to sustain and grow our economy. Alyssa would bring these invaluable assets to the board of selectmen. I can’t wait to see her get started!
