UPDATED: Barters Island home likely ‘total loss’ in fire

UPDATE: A Barters Island home is likely a total loss following a Wednesday morning, Nov. 27 fire. Boothbay Fire Department responded to a 7 a.m. structure fire at Kelo and Gayle Pinkham’s house at 167 West Side Road. Gayle Pinkham called 911 reporting smoke and fire had engulfed the home’s front room, according Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford. Boothbay received help from Southport, Boothbay Harbor and Edgecomb. The fire was extinguished around 10:45 a.m.

Spofford reported the house received significant damage. 

“I’d say it’s probably a total loss. There is significant smoke, fire and water damage.” A cause hasn’t been determined as the Maine State Fire Marshal arrived shortly after the fire was extinguished. Spofford didn’t know if the Pinkhams had insurance.
