Two Salty Dogs Pet Outfitters handed off a $1,200 check to Action for Animals Maine Oct. 20. AFAM is a nonprofit committed to helping people in Lincoln County in need of financial assistance for their pets’ health needs.

TSD owner Don Kingsbury said he and staff raised the money via collection jars and tennis ball sales. “We get them donated and sell them for a dollar apiece and about $600-$700 of this is from the tennis balls … We'll be giving them a couple bags of food, too.”

AFAM founder and President Giselle Armstrong said TSD has always been a great supporter of her organization and of animals in general. The Kingsburys are always willing to pitch in for events or contests, she said.

“Between the proceeds from the tennis balls and the food they give us … it's been one of many great partnerships in town. They're such great people and have been very helpful.”

AFAM has held several events this year with other businesses and organizations like Farm 23, Brady’s and the farmer’s market in the Boothbay region and Animal House in Damariscotta. The last event of the year will be Friendsgiving, a “community celebration of Thanksgiving.” Armstrong said the event is to help those who do not have family in the region have a Thanksgiving with others in the community. “We've been working really hard at this and we want to just give back to the community, help them out because the community has helped us out in the past a lot.”

AFAM Vice President Clint Miller said everyone is welcome to come and donations are “accepted, but not expected.” The suggested donation is $10 per person, there will be dine-in or curbside service available and masks will be required. A portion of the proceeds will go to Boothbay Region YMCA’s Giving Tree and leftover food will be donated to Boothbay Food Pantry, Miller said. “It's a big undertaking, but it should be fun.”

Armstrong and Miller said Friendsgiving is a good way to give back to the community and increase AFAM’s presence and mission. TSD, along with over 20 other sponsors, has been instrumental in making these events happen and spearheading fundraising, they said. Friendsgiving will be from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at Boothbay’s American Legion Post #36.
