The plein air artist has painted in all four seasons here in Maine. Van Hasselt has been leading workshops for decades in Maine and Europe. He is the author of instruction books – “Watercolor Workshop” – and co-authored, with Judi Wagner, “The Watercolor Fix-It Book” and “Painting with the White of Your Paper.” He has also produced many instructional DVDs.
A collection of plein air paintings by Tony van Hasselt A.W.S. is on exhibit in the gallery on the second floor of the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor: “Oh ... the Places I’ve Been.” Meet van Hasselt and wife Jan at the opening reception on Wednesday, June 9 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Some of those places with work included in this show are Brazil, Charleston, The Netherlands, Provence, Greece, New York and, of course, local landscapes and seascapes; Boothbay region landmark Boothbay Railway Village, and the ever-popular Farmer’s Market where he used to paint weekly.
This year, he will hold two painting workshops, June in Vermont and July in Belfast. He also offers one-on-one workshops.
All paintings are for sale. Check out the price sheets! The exhibit runs through July 30.
The Opera House is at 86 Townsend Ave. and is open Wednesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. See the show then, or before all scheduled performances.
