The time has come

Dear Editor:

The major problem in Boothbay Harbor is the lack of parking. The town was not designed for this many vehicles; very small due to its topography.

The answer is here, kind of a perfect answer: The parking lot at the Opera House, with an eminent domain package up to Oak Street, becoming a four- to five-story parking garage. Drive in off Oak Street and drive out on Townsend Avenue, and allowing a covered entrance to access the Opera House and free parking for all of their events (as part of the deal).

I think the front facade on the lower exit would look great, as the Strand Theater, before it was lost in the fire, as you were driving out with the theater’s large concrete steps — an amazing visual memory.

The town might use the bricks from the sidewalk restoration budget for this more meaningful use. Let’s go forward, not backwards.

From a lifelong resident.
