Three trees are now one

Mon, 11/04/2019 - 3:45pm

    Dear Editor:

Three trees at Ocean Point, which numbered two in the recent past, are now down to one tree standing. The southeaster and strong winds we had the other evening did it again. The second tree got uprooted and blew over the night of Oct. 31.

We had no tornado warning  here in Maine this past summer but we are making up for it now. With two southeasters and coastal storms on Oct. 17 and 31, several trees were knocked down and power outages resulted.

Green Island, off Grimes Cove at Ocean Point, has been battered over the decades by fierce winds and countless coastal storms, as I have noticed the changing face of the island, with a number of broken and downed trees. Younger trees have been growing on the northeast side of Green Island and years ago, when I used to be down here at my grandparents’ camp on Grimes Avenue, those trees left on the island were very tiny, small trees.
