    Dear Editor

This past Saturday was our annual American Legion Dinner with an expected turn out of over 80 members, their families, and special guests. The kitchen crew, led by the Auxiliary and supported by the Sons and members of the Post, were busy at work in the kitchen starting early in the morning. The team was preparing the vegetables, the salads, and chicken for a chicken Parmesan dish.

At about 1 p.m., time to turn on the ovens … but nothing happened! After checking to be sure all the valves where lined up correctly, the next step was to see if the propane was turned on. Well, it was turned on but you can’t get gas from an empty tank! Now I am in a full-blown panic mode. Somehow the kitchen team remained calm, cool, and collected as they figured out an alternative plan so the dinner could go on … but with a drastically different menu and shuttles between private home kitchens and the Legion Hall.

I immediately called Colby & Gale to see if they could come and fill the tank. They took the information and said they would contact the driver of the truck and see what they could do. Within 30 minutes the Colby & Gale truck arrived and filled the tank. We were good to go … well, not quite, no gas to the burners. Before I knew what was happening another truck arrived from Damariscotta and a technician came in, found the problem and literally saved the day and the dinner. So, on behalf of the American Legion Post 36 and all our guests Saturday night, a very sincere and most appreciative thank you Colby & Gale team!
