St. Andrews Village to hold heart healthy cooking demonstration

St. Andrews Village will hold a free heart healthy cooking demonstration on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. in the main dining room.

The mid-morning program is open to the community and will feature a live cooking demonstration by Village chefs, along with LincolnHealth Dietician Kay Fisher.

Fisher will comment “cooking show style” during the chefs’ preparation and delivery. She will also talk specifically about the importance of low sodium diets. Research shows that reducing the intake of sodium or salt helps to reduce blood pressure and helps to prevent swelling of the extremities, such as your legs. Limiting your salt intake may also lower the risk of heart disease.

Amy Ronan, director of dining services at the Village, will offer insights on how the focus is not only on the importance of healthy nutrition for seniors, which is essential, but also on making food delicious and the dining experience pleasant. Amy and her crew create amazing, healthy dishes for residents each week.

Attendees will enjoy freshly prepared food, pick up a recipe or two, and get some great advice on heart healthy cooking. Everyone in attendance will also be entered into a drawing for a local restaurant gift certificate.
