St. Andrews Auxiliary holds annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon

St. Andrews Auxiliary held their annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon last Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Newagen Seaside Inn. Seventy members were present to celebrate hours of dedicated work in their Thrift Shop and for service projects that went throughout St. Andrews Village and Campus.  Many Auxiliary members were honored for volunteering at the Boothbay Y Vaccination Clinic for a period of five months and 11 past presidents were recognized for continuity of service over the last several decades.

Featured speaker was new LincolnHealth President Cindy Wade, who gave the gathering a good update on COVID-19/vaccinations, staffing shortages at St. Andrews Village and recent donations of medical equipment made possible through the work of the Auxiliary. She was generous in her praise with the membership and presented them with a plaque reading, “St. Andrews Auxiliary - in recognition of its extraordinary support of LincolnHealth and the COVID-19 Response team at the Boothbay Region YMCA.”

Receiving special recognition this year from Auxiliary President, Laura Zajdel was Betty Goulette. A longtime volunteer at the St. Andrews Auxiliary Thrift Shop and at the St. Andrews Village Gregory Wing,  Betty has clocked hundreds of hours at the thrift shop and has the energy and keen sense to know what needs to be done. There is a story that she once walked from her home on Southport Island to work at the shop in the Meadow Mall!

Special recognition was also given the Laura Honey, head cashier at the Thrift Shop. Laura has many hours of service at the thrift shop and served as Social Chair on the Auxiliary Board of Directors. After the COVID-19 lockdown, the shop reopened on May 11, 2020 with a skeleton crew staff and Laura filled in for numerous shifts to greet returning customers with her gracious smile and helpful commentary.
