Spruce Mountain tops Boothbay boys, 68-21

Spruce Mountain showed why it is one of the best boys’ basketball teams in the region regardless of class with a 68-21 victory over Boothbay on Jan. 15 at Porter Memorial Gymnasium. The Phoenix are 8-0, and ranked No. 1 in Class B South. For the second straight game, Boothbay was without Gryffin Kristan and Lucas Hardwick. Boothbay struggled throughout the game to score. In the second quarter, the only points came from two Connor Wenners free throws. In the third quarter, Wenners scored the Seahawks’ only field goal. He scored four points. Boothbay’s leading scorer was Giovanni Warren who scored all seven of his points in the fourth quarter. 

Boothbay drops to 4-4 after winning its last two Mountain Valley Conference games. The Seahawks travel to Madison on Jan. 17 to play the Bulldogs.
