’Round Town

Spring

We had a wonderful weekend! The weather was spectacular. Clear, blue sunny skies. Cool, crisp breeze. And family.

We celebrated the 42nd anniversary of our lives together here in wonderful Maine. Our kiddos made it home, too. Megan bused in from New York City for an overnight and Morgan and Andrei zipped up from Portland between job travels and appointments. Kevin Kiley even stopped by.

We just hung out at the barn and caught up on recent happenings. Andrei brought his drone and we flew up and over everything like seagulls. Great fun!

But all good things must end. Morgan and Andrei returned to Portland and on Sunday we drove Megan to the bus station for our favorite transportation to New York, the Concord “Plus” bus. While at the station waiting for the bus to load, we bumped into the nicest folks from Wiscasset whose son was returning to New York, too. They had all been skiing at Sugarloaf for the weekend and said the snow was absolutely fantastic. Packed powder, reasonable temps and room to move.

We all said our good-byes and waved as the bus backed out of the station and headed south.

From the bus we popped into Trader Joe's for a quick shop and some unusual finds. Susan did well in the fresh vegetable area while I sneaked over to the cookies and such departments. Another gentleman and I swooned over all the goodies we could not eat. To quote my fellow shopper, “If it tastes like cardboard, I can eat as much as I want. Otherwise, if it tastes good, it is off the list.” We laughed just a little and then moved on to the gluten-free, low-carb, tasteless departments.

When we got home to Southport, it was still a lovely day so we decided to go for a walk. Along the way we encountered “spring” bubbling up around our feet. The frost was coming out of the ground and turning the hard pack into a sea of mud. When we got back to the barn, I was checking the web for messages and noticed that Kevin Colby of Southport had posted views of a similar experience on Facebook with attendant comments. I didn't copy you Kevin, honest. Different mud!

We took off our shoes and boots outside. We don't have a mudroom yet.
