    The first week of August sees three wildly different performances coming to the Opera House stage in Boothbay Harbor. From classical to jazz and even a tribute to Lyle Lovett, there’s something for almost everyone.

    On Tuesday, Aug. 2, an ensemble from the Bowdoin International Music Festival brings an afternoon of classical music to the stage. While the festival organizers haven’t revealed the program, it promises to be a memorable afternoon for classical music fans. Unlike many Opera House events, this performance does not require tickets. It is a free concert with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. and the music beginning at 2.

    Forty eight hours later, on Thursday, Aug. 4, the musical mood in the house will change completely with the arrival of the Seth Warner Band and the Shrewsbury Horns. This 9-piece Portland, Maine based return to the Opera House for an unforgettable summer evening of music spanning folk, country, blues, standards, and Texas swing. The evening will feature a complete performance of Lyle Lovett’s 1987 record “Pontiac.”  Joining Seth will be Andy Argondizza – guitar,  Dan Beller-McKenna – pedal steel, Bess Jaqcues – piano, Matt Kennedey – saxophone, Marty Joyce – drums,  David Thibodeau – bass, and very special guests, The Shrewsbury Horns. Advance tickets $20, regular tickets $25. Concert at 7:30 p.m.

    Wrapping up the week on Aug. 5, Barney Balch and the Novel Jazz Septet bring the music of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn back to the Opera House. There will be room for a little dancing in the aisles tonight. Advance tickets for this concert are also $20, with regular tickets $25. Concert at 7:30 pm.

    The Opera House box office at 86 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor is open Wednesday-Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, for advance purchase discounted tickets. It can also be reached at 207-633-5159. Online tickets and information are available at boothbayoperahouse.com.

    Other upcoming performances include the spirited Celtic song and dance of Cherish the Ladies on July 28, and guitar virtuoso Shane Hennessy on July 30. The Opera House is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to bringing live music and performances to the Boothbay region throughout the year.
