Seahawks shine against Greyhounds

Sat, 12/31/2022 - 8:45am

Junior forward Finn Harkins scored 23 points and senior guard Gryffin Kristan added 16 as the Boothbay Region Seahawks improved to 3-2 on the season with a convincing win at home over the Lisbon Greyhounds, 55-44, Friday, Dec. 30.

The second quarter defense by the Seahawks gave them a comfortable lead which they never relinquished. At the half, Boothbay led 26-14. All of Boothbay's points (15) in the second quarter came on three-pointers, including three by Harkins who had five on the night.

The Class B Greyhounds, who fell to 2-2 on the season, couldn't mount much offense in the first half as Boothbay's zone kept them from getting many shots in the paint. The visitors kept within striking distance behind five three-pointers in the second half but the Seahawks put the pressure on by holding them to one shot most of the game.

Defensively, guards Drew Meader, Kayden Ames, Ryan Amaral and Kristan came up with several steals and the 6'3" forwards Connor Wenners and Harkins hauled in the bulk of Boothbay's defensive rebounds.

Leading Lisbon in scoring were Levi Tibbetts with 16 and Chase Mailhot with 14, including four three-pointers.

Boothbay, currently in fifth place in Class C South, is scheduled to play at Spruce Mountain on Jan. 3. The Class B Phoenix lead Class B South with a 5-0 record.
