Seahawks fall to Black Bears 3-0

The Maranacook Black Bears won their playoff game, 3-0, against the visiting Boothbay Region Seahawks on Thursday, Oct. 21. Maranacook (5-10) moves on to face the top-seeded Winthrop Ramblers (14-0) in the Class C South tournament while Boothbay’s season ends with a 2-12-1 record.

Coach Alison Sirois reported that at 2:17 of the first quarter, a Seahawks goal was declined by the officials.

“On a penalty corner. Meghan Leeman took the shot with Sydney Blake assisting at the top of the circle. The ref made the call (that) the ball never left and reentered the circle so it didn't count,” said Sirois.

Sirois said the Seahawks “dominated more offensively in the second half; we kept it at their end of the field the majority of the time which included seven penalty corners. We had 11 penalty corners in the game, the most we have had all season.”

Senior tri-captain and goalie Jaelyn Crocker made five saves in the game.

“We have a young team with tons of potential. Including some strong new recruits from BRES. I forecast a winning season next year,” said Sirois.
