Seacoast Community Orchestra: New musicians welcome

Wed, 09/04/2019 - 11:00am
Area musicians are invited to play music with Seacoast Community Orchestras this 25th Anniversary season. Adults and children, experienced players and those less experienced, are welcome to join one or more of our string ensembles for fall and/or spring semesters. Brass and Woodwind musicians are encouraged to join the Avanzata Orchestra for the fall session this year. No auditions are required and many members play in more than one group.
The Prima Orchestra provides an introduction to ensemble playing suitable for students who have learned the Bach Minuets in Suzuki Book 1 or equivalent and have some sight reading experience. Prima is directed by Kaity Newell, founder of the orchestra, local musician and strings teacher at Great Salt Bay Community School and Center for Teaching and Learning.
The Mezza Orchestra, led by Dino Liva of the DaPonte Quartet, is suitable for students of all ages who have some musical reading experience and have completed Suzuki Book 2 or 3 or the equivalent. Avanzata Orchestra, also conducted by Dino Liva, welcomes advanced players who can play pieces in the Suzuki Books 4 and 5 or the equivalent. This fall the Avanzata Orchestra invites Brass and Woodwind players to join for a symphonic performance.
Weekly rehearsals for the orchestras begin Sept. 10 and continue throughout the school year following the school holiday calendar. Spring semester rehearsals commence April 14, 2020. Rehearsals are held at the Great Salt Bay Community School band room Tuesday afternoons. This season, free public concerts are offered Dec. 3 and April 14, 2020 at the Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta.
