Rotary: Our local treasure

Mon, 09/21/2020 - 3:15pm

    Dear Editor:

Those of us who live here year round know the importance of community efforts and outreach. It is with much gratitude that I would like to recognize our local Rotary organization, for their creativity and devotion to service, especially this summer.

Many from here and away have always attended the Rotary Auction in August, with tents and treasures, food and fun, with hours of dedicated volunteer work, and all proceeds going to worthy causes. Due to the pandemic, the auction was cancelled. But creative minds prevailed to let us have an ongoing sampling of those treasures, by opening up their "barn" by appointment or at specific hours. This allowed us to practice recycling at its best, by purchasing treasures donated by residents, picked up by volunteers, sorted through by more volunteers, and sold by stalwart Rotary volunteers.

Although I cannot name all of them, a special shout-out to Irene, Laurie, Marty and Michael, for their incredible volunteer spirit and talents. Yes, we took home some treasures, but the real treasure is our local Rotary.
