Remembering Bruce Johnson

Tue, 02/25/2020 - 11:00am

    Dear Editor:

Last month, our community lost many individuals who embodied what it is to be part of the Boothbay region. One of those individuals was Bruce Johnson, a gentle, kind and generous man. Bruce was a long-term volunteer for Boothbay Region Community Resource Council. In the earliest days, Bruce and his wife Enid were a driving force in the successful community garden we had with Joan Rittall at the Rittall Farm in Boothbay. They worked endlessly, bringing seeds to plants and later harvesting hundreds of pounds of fresh produce. These fresh vegetables and fruits made their way back into the hands of our very own in this region through the Boothbay Region Food Pantry and other organizations that help to improve access to fresh food on the peninsula.

Bruce moved on from the Community Garden to become a board member and treasurer for Boothbay Region Community Resource Council. He was a committed volunteer who ensured that our organization had adequate funds for the ongoing mission and programming of BRCRC. Bruce was a tireless advocate for the services and programs at BRCRC.

Bruce will be remembered for his caring heart and his robust laugh. We send our condolences to Enid and the rest of the Johnson family as they mourn the loss of a truly wonderful man.

We will always remember Bruce for the many contributions he made to help others in this community and beyond.
