Rebuilding Together takes on 14 repair projects

Rebuilding Together of Lincoln County held its annual spring work day on Saturday, April 29. Volunteers rebuilt rotting decks, replaced storm doors and did general cleanup at 14 sites on the Boothbay and Bristol peninsulas. An estimated 60-70 volunteers joined the daylong effort.
“Bigelow gave us 10 volunteers,” said project coordinator Vic Taylor.
Taylor said they were given assistance by Hammond Lumber Company and Lowe’s Home Improvement. He said all the projects were going well except for painting, which as been delayed by the wet conditions. Taylor has volunteered with the program for 11 years.
“It helps the organization when other family members are there to help,” said volunteer Mike Reed about Bret Newbury, who pulled rotted siding from his mother’s house in Edgecomb.
House captain Chris Higgins said his project in Boothbay Harbor would require a return visit to finish installing baseboard heating units. House captain Tammy Blackman’s crew was doing general yard cleanup in addition to leveling a rear deck, replacing a storm door and repairing house flashing chewed up by a lawn trimmer.
Blackman has been a volunteer for about 11 years and serves on the organization’s board of directors.
Rebuilding Together of Lincoln County was organized in 2002 as one of 225 chapters nationally. As of 2016, it had helped over 140 homeowners in the county.
