Re: Democrats’ picnic
Dear Editor:
Joe Charpentier’s article last week on the regional Democrats’ picnic at beautiful Barrett’s Park (7/13/19) provided excellent coverage of the various political candidates who joined the picnic.
But there was an additional quality that was also intended to be most central to the picnic. A primary goal of the picnic organizers in these politically unsettled times was to bring together Democrats and other sympathizers, from the towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb and Southport. I know it happened because I saw several tables of different families introducing themselves during the afternoon. So I came away thinking the picnic was a success from this perspective, too.
And, as I walked to my car at the end of the day, I heard a Southporter say how happy she was to have met so many people from the Boothbay region. There is progress!
