letter to the editor

Political rabble-rousing?

    Dear Editor:

I'm getting pretty tired of all these people complaining about the Stay-at-Home orders. How selfish are you? I understand that you may be currently unemployed and your worried about your livelihood. Sadly, most of the letters to the editor come from older people who have Medicare and Social Security to help them out. I don't recall seeing any letters from those on the frontline putting their lives at risk. I wonder if this is just political rabble-rousing.

Instead of being mad about Covid-19 how about you write to your senators and representatives and tell them to stop giving money to corporations who have been hoarding it for many years. No high priced executives are losing their jobs or taking pay cuts. Tell the Senate and Congress to make sure the money goes to individuals to make up for lost wages, to help small businesses and insure health care for those without it.

Everyone is concerned, bored and fed up with having to stay home but this is a public health issue. This is not the flu. It is highly contagious and there is no immunization or treatment. We're all worried about the future and there are a lot of great organizations helping many people out, many which have been highlighted in this newspaper. Saying that we should just forget about protecting our neighbors, friends and community and do what we want is just selfish and going to make this virus last a lot longer. Find some humanity and compassion and take responsibility to protect your community!
