Boothbay Harbor Police Department arrested Tonya Baldwin, 41, of Boothbay, on Aug. 2, and charged her with driving under the influence and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.

Chief Bob Hasch said police received a report of a vehicle striking another vehicle on Townsend Avenue at 1:57 a.m. Officer Scott Mercier responded to the scene and discovered the parked vehicle that had been hit, but no other vehicle. Mercier then observed a vehicle off the road further up Townsend Avenue, where it had struck a tree just north of the intersection of Pear Street and Townsend Avenue. Mercier arrested the driver, Baldwin, and charged her with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Boothbay Harbor Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene and located another struck parked car, as well as damage to a guardrail and the porch of Boat House Bistro on the By-Way.

Hasch said police believe Baldwin struck the guardrail, porch and parked car on the By-Way, then struck another car on Townsend before finally stopping after driving through bushes and hitting a tree in front of a private residence on Townsend Avenue.

Hasch said there was extensive damage to Baldwin’s vehicle, but the total cost of the damages had not yet been estimated.

Baldwin was arrested at the Boothbay Harbor Police Station on Howard Street and released on bail.
