Planning board approves Washburn & Doughty housing plan

Fri, 09/23/2022 - 8:15am

Washburn & Doughty’s employee housing project received planning board approval Sept. 21. The Boothbay Planning Board voted 4-0 in approving an application submitted by Tarquin Holdings, LLC of East Boothbay to convert a Church Street house into employee housing. The proposal creates four to six private bedrooms with a common kitchen and living space.

In other action, the second of two pre-application hearings with Atlantic Environmental LLC was held. In August, Atlantic Environmental Senior Project Manager Lisa Vickers was joined by ReWild Renewables Vice President of Project Development Joe Harrison seeking planning board guidance about their proposal. The two companies are planning to build a solar array on the outskirts of Boothbay Railway Village Museum’s property at 586 Wiscasset Road. The project is called Boothbay Solar, LLC. Vickers reported the company has a 20-year lease with options for additional five-year leases.

The board also held three other pre-application hearings. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens representatives explained plans for expanding their culinary center. Robyn Clark discussed plans to amend subdivision lines on her Sunny Acres Lane property. Boothbay Sea and Science Center discussed a change-of-use request for Carter Road in East Boothbay. The center is seeking a change of use from residential to educational. The center entered into a purchase-and-sale agreement earlier this year with the Carter family. The agreement calls for selling 1.33 acres of shorefront property to the center. The sale also includes two houses and an out-building.

The board meets next at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 in the conference room.
