Oktoberfest comes to Wiscasset
Following in the tradition of the annual 16-day festival held in Munich, Germany since 1810, the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset at 28 High St. invites the public to celebrate Oktoberfest with German bratwurst and sauerkraut on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The proceeds from Oktoberfest will fund church programs.
In addition to bratwurst and sauerkraut, hot dogs, chips, and soda will be available. Oktoberfest highlights will include the ever-popular yard sale tables and the Organ Society’s collection of handknit mittens and hats, and other crafts. Pumpkins and homemade pies, cakes, cookies and breads will also be available. The popular church cookbook, “Recipes from the Church on the Common” will be sold at a discount for the day at $10.
Also, on Oktoberfest weekend, Wiscasset Public Library across the Common from the church will be holding a half-price book sale in the Used Book Room on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit the library.
