Column

Ocean Point

Tue, 08/04/2020 - 9:00am
I begin this week’s column with very sad news; we have lost another beloved Ocean Pointer. Dave Dudley passed away on Thursday, July 30 at his home on Ocean Point. We all remember Dave as a kind, caring, courageous individual who for many years was physically challenged with Parkinson’s disease and yet always smiled and showed concern for everyone who knew him. I especially loved his spirit and thoroughly enjoyed watching him work out and swim at the YMCA several times a week; he truly was an inspiration.

David was an owner of the Ocean Point Inn and was instrumental in employing many of our younger residents each and every summer.  It was so wonderful to be greeted by he and Beth when you entered the lobby of the hotel for dinner and both David and Beth truly appreciated the support of the Inn by the Ocean Point community. We will surely miss his gentle and thoughtful way, his infectious smile and laugh and his wonderful stories, our sincere condolences to his wife of many years, Beth. You may personally offer your condolences to Beth this Friday evening, Aug. 7 from 5-7 p.m. at the Casino.

August activities are in full swing. Thanks to Greg and Amy Arnpriester for hosting the S’mores night last week and to Chris Nordenson for arranging to have some of Maine’s top tennis players wow us with their tennis matches.

Regular outdoor activities will occur this week for kids and Thursday night Mike and Mary Rush have organized the 3rd annual Trivia Night at 7 p m; make your own team or come and be paired with a team. It is always a great time and quite competitive, bring your beverage of choice and join in the fun.

Please note that the kid’s Scavenger Hunt is scheduled for next Friday the 14th not the 7th as written on the calendar. As always check the bulletin board at the Casino for any changes in times.

Friday, Aug. 6 our second Food Sale and Raffle of the season will take place on the porch. Bring your food by 9 for pricing, stay and purchase some delicious food items for the weekend!

The Hall Family will be flipping pancakes on Saturday morning from 8:30-10. This is always a huge hit, bring your appetite and enjoy breakfast. In keeping with social distancing and Covid regulations seating will be limited.

Saturday evening the second of our Porch Parties begins at 5:30 hosted by Matt and Kathy Lindley and Jimmy and Lisa Rush. Bring your beverage of choice and an appetizer. There’s plenty of space on our beautiful new porch to safely distance and converse with friends.

The annual meeting of the OPCT will take place on Saturday August 15 beginning at 9:30 a m. Electronic notification has been sent to the membership and is posted at the Casino.

We continue to enjoy great weather although looking ahead tropical storm Isaias is scheduled to hit Maine midweek. Stay safe and have a great week.
