Ocean Point Column: Visitors, events and more

A large crowd gathered last Saturday evening at Grimes Cove for our Lobster Bake on the Beach organized by Jonathan and Kate Dawson; it was the perfect evening to dine on the beach with comfortable temperatures and just a hint of wind which kept the mosquitoes at bay. We all thoroughly enjoyed feasting on lobsters with all the fixings and Kate’s homemade blueberry cake. Assisting Jonathan and Kate was Andy Smith, Sarah and Jane Dawson, Tyler and Kate Kipp, David Butterworth, Charlie Carrick, John Hankinson, Rhea McGranaghan, Marcia Donald and Cara and Mark Pond. Connie Saindon assisted Kate in making the blueberry cake. Thank you to all for an amazing meal.

Team Bertrand lost to Team Dawson at Sunday’s softball game in what turned out to be a slugfest; the younger generation took on the very “seasoned” players and our younger team was victorious 18-11.

Anyone on vacation certainly has experienced incredible weather this past week.

Lanny and Leslie Whitehouse’s daughter-in-law Kelly is visiting with her children Hannah and Logan.

Chris Ross, his daughter Karen and children Jack, Nate, Seth and Paige are vacationing at the Ross home all the way from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Karen’s husband Dan will be joining them soon.

Holly and Jimmy Gomes and daughter Taylor were here for the week.

Rob and Maureen Baumgartner are here vacationing as is Sarah and Izzy Dawson.

Phil Ripley, son Kenny, daughter Cindy and Cindy’s daughter Jeannette and Sharon and David Pike are enjoying a bit of a mini Ripley reunion at the Inn. Young Uncle Phil is enjoying zipping around the Point on his bike, an inspiration to us all!

Several families who were here in July have returned for some time in August and include the Arnpriester Family, Jim Rush Family and the Yerrall Family.

Priscilla Hayes is displaying her beautiful artwork titled Windward Coves at the Gold/Smith Gallery, 8 McKown Street, Boothbay from now until Aug. 27.

Thanks to Mary Rush and Amber Hendereck for planning the Family Beach Picnic. It was another perfect night for a get together at Grimes.

Although I am writing this prior to the Paint Night I want to thank Jonathan Dawson for organizing what I’m sure will be great fun for kids as well as adults. I hope to report on our masterpieces next week.
