Ocean Point Column: Visitor from Ireland, drive-by birthday and more

Tue, 09/22/2020 - 11:30am

The season is quickly winding down, there are just a few lonely boats on moorings, and I suspect that most boats were taken out of the water a little earlier than usual due to the threat of the impending Hurricane Teddy. As of this writing on Monday the forecast is still tentative as to its path through Maine, however, the ocean is starting to roll with some good-sized surf crashing along the shore.

I mentioned last week that this time of year affords me the opportunity to catch up with Ocean Pointers I have not seen for awhile. I was excited to be able to chat with Krista Irmischer who is here vacationing with her sister Julie. Krista is currently living in Ireland and is the founder of KI Insights, a business that specializes in leadership coaching.

In honor of Joan Libby’s birthday, her daughter Jan is planning a car parade on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. Everyone should gather in their car at the Casino and proceed to Joan’s house to wish a beloved Ocean Pointer a happy birthday. Enjoy your special day Joan.

Congratulations to Michael and Heather Aquaviva on the recent purchase of their new home. Michael spent many summers here as a child and is excited to be back with his wife and their two children.

Congratulations and best wishes to Dan Shea and Kim O’Brien who will exchange vows on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Boothbay Harbor.

This will be the final week of tennis; the courts will close when Maine Track and Tennis come to take up the lines. The pickle ball courts will also be closed for the season.

Ann Hussey Hogaboorm, who will chair next summers’s Rummage sale, has requested that you gather your items to be donated both here and at home for the sale.

Again, just a reminder to donate your food items to the Food Pantry when you leave for the season and don’t forget our CLYNK program.

    Have a great week!
