Ocean Point Column: Upcoming events

Tue, 06/21/2022 - 7:30am

Summer has officially arrived and as each day passes more Ocean Pointers have taken up residence. As I write this week’s column I am enjoying what is a truly spectacular summer day.

Our Assistant Isabel Harkins is at the Casino part time from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday so please stop by and introduce yourself. She will be working alongside our AD Andy Smith to ensure that all activities run smoothly and will be leading the kids’ activities in the early evening.

I hope everyone will plan to attend the Town Hall Meeting scheduled for Friday, July 1 at 4 p.m. Hopefully you will stay after the meeting to assist in setting up for the annual Chicken Barbecue to be held on Saturday evening at 6:30. Ticket sales will be online and as always bring a salad or side dish to share and utensils.

The Horribles Parade will step off at 9:30 a. m. beginning at Grimes Cove. Unfortunately our trumpet player Bob Marden will not be with us this year so if you play the trumpet please come join the band; if you play any instrument and want to join the festivities we would love to have you participate.

Don’t forget to register for the OP Fun Run and 5k Road Race. Stephanie Kaler and Kelly Robbins have worked tirelessly to organize this great event. The Fun Run begins at 8 a.m. followed by the 5K at 8:30; the registration fee is $10 for the kids’ race and $20 for the 5K.

Thanks to Jen Klein the current version of the activities calendar has been posted on the website. Plan to visit the site often for any and all changes to the calendar.

Thank you to Paul Taylor and Jeff Slayton who have spent time cleaning up the ball field for our Sunday softball games by laying down new turf along the baselines; it certainly has added to the aesthetics of the property.

The Slayton Family would like to remind everyone that a memorial service for Jean”Meme” Slayton is to be held on Thursday, June 30 at St. Columba’s Church, Emery Lane, Boothbay at 11 a.m. and later that day a celebration of her life at the Ocean Point Casino from 4 to 7 p.m. All are welcome.

    Have a great week!
