Ocean Point Column: Thanksgiving, a birth and more

Tue, 12/01/2020 - 8:30am

I do hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving this year despite the smaller numbers gathered around the dinner table. From what I can determine it was certainly different for many people. Our family definitely kept to the suggested guidelines of smaller gatherings, as did many Ocean Pointers.

The Ross family enjoyed a small gathering as did the Hall family and the Rush family.

Thanks to Kevin Burnham for bringing a smile to the many readers of the Register last week as he shared his childhood memories of Thanksgiving Day. I’m sure a lot of you could certainly relate to those wonderful times he described, I certainly could. His account closely mirrored Thanksgiving Day in my childhood home, although our family was not quite as large. My memories were certainly happy and unforgettable however, Kevin is correct when he shares his belief that despite the adversity and difficult times we may be experiencing now, we should be grateful for all that we have.

As we look ahead to the Hanukkah/Christmas holidays we are all hopeful that the COVID-19 numbers will decrease so that we may once again enjoy our celebrations with loved ones.

There is joyous news from the Fischer family; Jake and Leah welcomed their new beautiful son, Noah Robert Fischer, on Oct. 22. Congratulations to them and to grandmother Joan; Joan expressed her excitement at becoming a grandmother for the fourth time.

Congratulations to Marilyn Heise on the recent publication of her new book,” Perilous Pills,” which is now available for purchase on Amazon in paperback or Kindle ebook.

Marilyn’s book is a personal account of her experience in taking prescribed antibiotics. After suffering a severe reaction to an antibiotic, Marilyn made the decision to carefully research the sometimes-harmful effects of taking these drugs. Her purpose in writing the book stems not only from sharing her personal experience but also to educate and protect family, friends and the public.

You can read additional information regarding this topic by visiting Marilyn’s website at www.perilouspills.com and be sure to sign up for her newsletter.

Please remember our local businesses as you do your holiday shopping and, of course, the Food Pantry.

Stay safe, healthy and positive in these challenging times! Have a great week!
