What an incredible stretch of beautiful summer weather! I realize we need rain desperately but for those on vacation the weather could not be more ideal.

It appears that the tourist season has increased in the area, which is wonderful for our local businesses especially the Inn, they are extremely pleased with their numbers both in the restaurant and the rooms and the outdoor dining has become very popular.

We have all been anticipating the opening of Lobsterman’s Wharf which finally opened last week and we were not disappointed as the food is as good as it has been since Dan and Eileen Miller purchased the restaurant. If you’ve driven by you’ve seen the new look, what fun to sit at the lobster boat bar, a very clever and unique idea.

It was once again a very busy week of activities. A big thank you to all who chaired and helped with an event: Ginna Yerrall and Barb Slayton for chairing the extremely successful Food Sale and to those who assisted: Ginny Rush, Maureen Driscoll, Lisa Rush and donors to the raffle: Will Bertrand, Barbara Slayton, Ginna Yerrall, Ginny Rush, Mary Rush, Maureen Driscoll, Amy Arnpriester, Moira Nordenson, Pat Landurand, Cindy Raposa, Barb Newell, Stephanie Newell, Lisa Rush, Maine and Ivy, Farm 23,Ornes Candy, Boothbay Harbor CC, Ice Cream Factory, Popcorn Store and the Accessories Shop of Damariscotta.

Thanks to our Pancake Breakfast chair, Alex Hall for a delicious assortment of pancakes and sausage last Saturday morning. Assisting Alex in the kitchen were Maureen Driscoll, Kristen Hall, Cara Pond, and Robert Driscoll. I overheard so many wonderful comments about sitting on the porch enjoying breakfast while watching tennis. We are truly grateful to have our new facility and wraparound porch on which to socialize with friends while allowing us to safely distance.Thank you to our very able waiters and waitresses: Caroline Driscoll, Kate Lindley, Luke and Dillon Driscoll, Jonathan and Luke Yerrall, Luke and Zach Arnpriester, Kyle Rush and Liam Raymond.

Again many thanks to all who attended and supported events, the OPCT is very appreciative!

Sunday softball has made a comeback! Sunday, Aug. 2 Team Slayton defeated Team Yerrall in a close game. The pitcher for the Slayton team was Isabella Scianablo who is an 8th grade student! Isabella pitched the entire game and struck out her dad David to win 14-12. Home run honors went to Scott Parker for the Slayton team and Jonathan Yerrall for his dad’s team while brother Luke made the defensive play of the game with an impressive catch in center field!

In this past week’s game Team Rush defeated Team Dawson 6-5. Jefferson Driscoll hit a triple which drove in 2 runs and Orlando Jones had some great catches in right field as did Kyle Rush A very special fan, Meme Slayton was delighted to sit on the porch watching as she always has every Sunday for many years. Meme’s son Bob did, of course, display his athletic prowess once again at shortstop.

Coming up this week along with our regularly scheduled events is the Ladies Porch Party on Wednesday evening beginning at 5:30;bring your beverage of choice and an appetizer. Special kid’s events include Glow in the Dark Capture The Flag on Thursday at 8:00 and a Scavenger Hunt on Friday at 5:00.

The annual meeting of the OPCT will take place on Saturday morning at 9:30; I believe the meeting will be held in the ball field so we may all stay safe and social distance.

Our second adult Cornhole Tournament will be held on Saturday at 5:30 in the ball field. Sign up is at the Casino, bring your own boards if available and plan to arrive at 5:15 for set up and choosing teams, this is a coed tournament. Come join in the fun and bring your beverage of choice, prizes will be awarded to the winning team.

Before the adults compete, the Driscolls have organized a Cornhole Tournament for the kids at 4:00. Again, if you have boards please bring them.

Enjoy the gorgeous weather and have a great week!
