Ocean Point Column: Softball and upcoming events

Tue, 07/30/2019 - 1:30pm

Summer is certainly flying by; hard to believe it’s now the beginning of August!

Our August residents have begun to arrive; The Fuller Family is all here and the Hamblett Family is gathered as well.

Our Sunday Softball game has been nonexistent the last couple of weeks but players rallied this past Sunday for a game. Team Bertrand defeated Team Dawson in a thriller as Mike Rush scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning on a walk-off double by Charlie Carrick. Spectators also witnessed 6-year-old James Rush hit not one but two home runs.

Thanks to all who chaired an event last week: Ken Schroeder for the Ball Game Grill, Jonathan Dawson for the kid’s Rowing Race and Susan Anderson and Mary Rush for a rollicking game of ladies Bunco.

Along with our weekly activities, this week will include the Lobster Bake at Grimes Cove on Saturday, Aug. 3. Arrive between 4:45-5 p.m. for cocktails and appetizers and the food will be served at approximately 6. The bake includes lobster, clams, corn, hot dogs and blueberry cake. Bring an appetizer to share, beverage, and if needed, a chair. The cost of the bake is $18 and can be paid the night of the event. Contact Jonathan Dawson for further details.

The Seacoast Mission under the direction of James Zavodney will conduct Sunday Services at the Wilson Memorial Chapel on Aug. 4 beginning at 9:30 a.m.; all are welcome.

We’ve got plenty of activities planned for August and they include: the Family Beach Picnic on Monday, Aug. 5 at Grimes beginning at 6 p.m. and a first time Paint Night on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The kids will paint from 6:30-7:30 and adults from 8-9. The good news is that this fun evening doesn’t require any art skills, just come and enjoy and maybe discover a hidden talent!

Our second annual Trivia night is coming up on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Sign up as an individual or as a team. Last year’s event was great fun, quite competitive and very challenging; hone up on your trivia facts and join us at 7 p.m. Bring your own refreshments.

A special Glow in the Dark Capture the Flag is on the calendar Thursday night, Aug. 8 at 8 for the kids.

Pat Landurand and Cindy Raposa are chairing the August Bake Sale on Friday, August 9 from 9:30-11 a.m. Bring your food items to the Casino beginning at 8:30. The Hamblett Family will once again feed us a hearty breakfast of pancakes and sausage on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 8:30-10 and the Lindleys will host the Porch Party that same evening at 5:30,bring an appetizer and your beverage.

The family of Roberta Alden would like to invite all to a celebration of her life to be held at the family home, 28 Grimes Avenue, Saturday, Aug. 17 from 1-3 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be held in memory of Anne Kern at the Wilson Memorial Chapel on Saturday, August 17 at 4 p.m.

Enjoy the beautiful weather and have a great week!
