Ocean Point Column: Seasonal water, new AD and more

Tue, 04/09/2019 - 1:30pm

We’ve just returned from a quick overnight to Ocean Point and I’m happy to report that all appeared great! When the BRWD announced recently on their website that they would begin the process of preparing for seasonal water turn on, we couldn’t resist the urge to return to Ocean Point, if only briefly.

Thank you to the BRWD for all of their efforts in preparing to get seasonal water on, we so appreciate their hard work. Please check their website often for the latest updates.

Despite the fact that spring has arrived there are tiny traces of winter left behind. Both the Kennebec and Sheepscot rivers had some ice and snow scattered along the banks and we noticed some small piles of snow along Route 96. I understand that the area may receive a couple of inches of snow on Monday, let’s hope that is not the case; I think everyone would agree that it is time for spring!

The weekend weather was milder which gave many the opportunity to drive to the Point and walk; several people were out and about enjoying the weather.

There are several building projects in progress at the Point and for all ice cream lovers Down East Ice Cream has opened a second shop in the Meadow Mall.

We are working diligently putting the final touches on the activities calendar with the help of Liz Dawson and it should be available next week, thank you Liz for your assistance in this effort; there are plenty of activities planned for all to enjoy. Please check the OP website for this information.

I believe that I mentioned in a previous column that Nick Arno would not be returning as our AD this summer and so a search committee was formed to find a new director. I am very pleased and excited to announce that former AD Andy Smith will be returning in his role as the AD this season.

Many of you, I know, remember Andy and Nancy Smith as residents of the AD cottage for many seasons. Despite the fact that Andy “retired” from the position as AD he and Nancy continued to visit Ocean Point every summer. Both are very excited to be returning and I think we can all agree it will be wonderful not only to have them back but also to have our tennis program revitalized, welcome Andy and Nancy.

There will be a memorial service for Larry Hornor, who passed in February, on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 10 Elm Street, Milford, New Hampshire.

The World Champion Red Sox played their home opener on Tuesday; all OP Red Sox fans are very excited for the upcoming season and hope it’s a great one.

    Have a great week!
