Ocean Point Column: A passing, graduations and more

Tue, 05/10/2022 - 1:00pm

Although rather cool and somewhat windy, it was a spectacular weekend at the Point. Each week that passes the Point shows a little more activity than the previous one.

Many took advantage on Mother’s Day to either stroll or drive around Shore Road. I do hope all the moms enjoyed their special day and were able to do whatever activity brings them joy; they certainly deserve that and more. My husband claims every day is mother’s day and I must say I completely agree.

Sadly one special Ocean Point mom passed away last week. As you may have seen in the Register Linda Gill died on May 1. I met Linda’s acquaintance several years ago when she and daughter Suzette purchased what was the home of Cyndy Pappas. They instantly fell in love with Ocean Point and enjoyed many summers together. Linda was most assuredly a beautiful, kind, loving and caring woman.

She always greeted you with her warm smile and genuine interest in what was happening with you. She loved the area so much that she and Suzette stayed here the past two winters rather than return to Florida.

Linda is survived by her devoted daughter Suzette and was predeceased by her husband Walter and sons James and Walter Jr. Her funeral mass was Tuesday, May 10 at Our Lady Queen of Peace at 10 a.m. The family invites you to share your condolences and memories on the Hall Funeral Home website at www.hallfuneralhomes.com.

It’s that time of year when graduations take place and Ocean Point has several graduating this year. Congratulations to Mali Dun who will graduate from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Mali is the daughter of Alec and Kelly Dun and granddaughter of Doreen and the late Jim Dun.

Hadley Wales is graduating from Marblehead High School and will attend Villanova in the fall. Hadley is the daughter of Stu and Karen Wales and granddaughter of Bob and Sue Goodrich.

Congratulations as well to Sarah Kern who will graduate this Friday from Northeastern University’s School of Nursing. Sarah is the daughter of Dave and Sue Kern.

There is wonderful news in the Shea family, congratulations to Dan and Kim Shea on the birth of their boy, Daniel Gerard, born April 26 and to the entire Shea family on their joyful news.

David Houston, golf coach at Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi, successfully coached his golf team to the Mississippi state championship. Congratulations to David and his team on an impressive season.

It was wonderful to catch up with our neighbor Charlie Pohl recently. There is exciting news in their family as daughter Abigail recently got engaged. I look forward to learning more details as to her wedding plans. Daughter Libby is living and working in Colorado and daughter Phoebe is completing her freshman year at Bates. I look back to when they were all so small; where does the time go?

Mark your calendar for Saturday May 28 for “Clean Up the Point Day” which runs from 8 a.m. until noon. Sign up is now posted on the website. This is a great way to reconnect with Ocean Point friends while helping to beautify our facility and land.

Have a great week!
