Happy summer to everyone! It’s wonderful to see familiar faces finally returning to the Point for the season.

This is our final few days before our activities begin and so there are several reminders of what is taking place.

This Wednesday, June 29 the junior tennis team will hold its first practice with Andy and his assistant Isabel from 3:30-4:30 and then again on Friday at 5.

Thanks to Andy, the tennis team will compete in six matches this summer; dates, times and venues will be posted at the Casino. Come out to root for our team!

Thursday June 30 is Jean “Meme” Slayton’s memorial service at St.Columba’s Church, Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor at 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life from 4 until 7 at the Ocean Point Casino.

Please plan on attending the Town Hall Meeting on Friday, July 1 at 4 p.m. and stay afterward to help set up and decorate for our annual Chicken Barbecue. We welcome any volunteers who could also assist the night of the event with serving and clean up.

Saturday morning July 2 our annual Horribles Parade will step off beginning at 9:30 a.m. from Grimes Cove. Allen Johnson is this year’s grand marshal so come out and cheer him on as well as all our participants. We are still in need of a trumpet player if anyone is interested in joining the band.

Get ready for another delicious chicken dinner Saturday evening, July 2 beginning at 6:30 p. m. at the Casino. Please bring a side dish/salad to share and utensils. Burgers will be provided too. Tickets may be purchased on our website.

The Rev. Wesley Smith will conduct the first service of the season at the Wilson Memorial Chapel on Sunday, July 3 at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

Ticket sales for the Pasta Dinner can be purchased online. This is a not to be missed event! The Slayton Family goes all out for this scrumptious Italian meal. The dinner is Wednesday, July 6 at 6:30 p.m.

The Memorial Golf Tournament is to be held on Saturday, July 9 beginning at 8 a.m. and the format is a scramble. You must sign up by July 2 at the Casino.

Lace up those running shoes for the OP Fun Run and 5K races which will also be held on Saturday, July 9 beginning at 8 a.m. The Fun Run will go off at 8 followed by the 5K at 8:30. Registration is online.

Patty Gardner with the assistance of Donna Logan is chairing the Food Sale again this year on Friday, July 8 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Please bring your food items to the Casino by 9 and if you wish to donate to the raffle all contributions are appreciated. Please contact Patty.

Zumba has begun on Mondays at 8:30 a.m. with Sarah and Yoga with Mary will begin on Tuesday, July 5 and Thursday, July 7. Sarah will not be available on Monday, July 4 but will return on Monday, July 11. That same morning Janis will begin her Restorative Yoga class at 10 and will also be teaching on Thursday mornings. Information regarding her class is posted on the Casino bulletin board.

Of course, our pickle ball and tennis programs are up and running. Barb Klein has set up an on line reservation system. Please pay your dues before play and information regarding sign up will be made available to you.

As always there are many kids activities to be held by several parents and our new assistant, Isabel, will conduct nightly activities on the field.

It promises to be quite a busy and active summer for all. Check the website and bulletin board for any changes to the events calendar. Thanks to all of you for your continued support of the OPCT.

Please travel safely during the holiday weekend. Have a great week!
