Ocean Point Column: Graduations, an engagement and Casino ‘wish list’

Tue, 06/02/2020 - 11:30am

It’s certainly wonderful to finally see Ocean Point come alive as residents return to open their cottages. The docks are now in place and although there are only two boats on moorings I’m sure more will be put in place as the month progresses.

The Grimes Cove raft is also anchored and ready for all the beach-goers, however, that may be awhile as the water temperature is currently only in the high 40s, brrrrrr!

As I write this week’s column the calendar says June 1,so it was quite a shock to wake up to temperatures in the 30s on Monday morning; a winter jacket became essential when walking along Shore Road.

We are now entering graduation and wedding season both of which have required some creative planning for both the graduates as well as all the brides and grooms. I’ve enjoyed watching the many creative and resourceful ways students are attending their graduation ceremonies and couples are figuring out unusual ways to exchange vows.

Congratulations to Leah Brownell who recently graduated from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. Leah will be pursuing a naster’s degree in architecture at Roger Williams in the fall; we wish her much success in her future endeavors.

Congratulations to Kyle Rush who will graduate from 8th grade and will enter high school at St. Mary’s in Lynn, Massachusetts.

If you have a graduate or know of one, please send along their information so that they may be recognized for all their hard work and accomplishments.

Congratulations and best wishes to Kate Turpie and Steve Johnson who recently announced their engagement.

All members of the OPCT should have received the spring letter electronically from president Mike Anderson. The OPCT understands that not all members receive information in this format; if you are one of those individuals please reach out to a board member to obtain a copy of the letter. The letter contains important information regarding membership and court fees for the upcoming 2020 season.

For those who have not had the opportunity to see our new facility I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the truly magnificent beauty of the building and its surroundings! How fortunate we are to have so many Ocean Pointers supporting our new building not only financially but also the donation of their time and talent to make this a reality. There are not enough words to describe our appreciation and gratitude to all of you.

Hopefully you have received an email regarding our Casino “wish list” which was compiled with the assistance of Susan Anderson, Suzie Hamblett, Barb Slayton and myself. We would like to outfit the new Casino with some essential kitchen items necessary for our many food events and other activities. A list has been created through Amazon and the link to the site is mentioned in the email along with instructions regarding purchasing the items. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity and support.

I am excited to see many of you return to Ocean Point in the upcoming weeks.

Have a great week and stay healthy!
