Ocean Point Column: Games, getting ready for demolition and more

Tue, 08/20/2019 - 1:00pm

It’s hard to believe our season of activities has come to an end! It was certainly a busy one and now our Casino is completely emptied and ready for demolition right after the Labor Day weekend.

Ginna Yerrall planned a fun-filled night of games for the adults last Wednesday evening with many participating in the event. What a wonderful time we all had hooting and hollering! She also planned one for the kids the previous night, thank you.

A large crowd gathered on Saturday, Aug. 17 for our annual meeting. We heard from several of our Preservation Project committee members as to the status of our new facility which will be constructed this winter. We are all very excited and wait with great anticipation for our new building. Lanny Whitehouse urged us all to complete our monetary commitment as soon as possible.

Thank you to all who generously donated to the project and also to the following businesses and organizations: Wilson Memorial Chapel, Ocean Point Inn, Pearce Lawn Care, East Boothbay General Store, Carriage House and Cottage Connection. Thank you again to Jon and Bev Holt who matched additional funds raised for the Casino, their challenge will end Sept. 14.

Thank you to all who stayed after the meeting to clear out the Casino in preparation of its demolition.

Other news from the meeting included the following information: the activities calendar for the 2020 season has been planned and will be posted on the website soon. Our AD Andy Smith will be returning next summer; thanks to Andy for all his hard work and effort in making this season run so smoothly, we are all very grateful.

Many Ocean Pointers turned out for a fun-filled Jamaican Night at the Inn on Saturday the 17th. Lennie Poorman and kitchen staff prepared a delicious meal which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks to all who organized the event.

Sunday softball luckily has made a comeback! Unfortunately we went several Sundays this season with no softball. It is such a tradition here at Ocean Point and is a bit disconcerting when there is no game.

The Rev. Canon John L.C. Mitman, Ret. Minister, Episcopal Church will conduct Sunday Services at the Wilson Chapel Aug. 25 beginning at 9:30 a. m. All are welcome.

Please remember the Food Pantry when you are packing up to leave. Peter and Patty Gardiner are hosting a porch party at their home, the 1877 house, on Saturday Aug. 24 at 5:30. You can bring your donated food items to the party and they will see that it is delivered to the Pantry. Bring an appetizer to share and beverage.

Don’t forget to send me your news. Have a great week!
