Ocean Point Column: Cornhole tournament, tennis special and more

Tue, 07/28/2020 - 1:00pm

It was another busy week here with many outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks to Kim Kruger for lending her artistic talent in teaching the kids about beach glass art last Monday and to Maureen Driscoll and Liz Dawson for hosting the Family Beach Picnic, I understand both events were a big hit. Thanks to AD Andy for guiding the kids through all of the outdoor games this past week and to Will Bertrand, Maureen and Robert Driscoll and Andy Smith for organizing our first Cornhole Tournament. The first Cornhole Tournament was held last Saturday evening and was quite well attended with lots of competitors joining in the fun, Congratulations to the winning team Robert Driscoll and Greg Arnpriester. It was so well received we are planning on an August tournament; start sharpening your tossing skills everyone!

The Arnpriesters organized the S’mores night last Sunday at Grimes. Thanks to Greg and Amy many families enjoyed those tasty treats!

Coming up this week the usual kids events will take place and don’t forget to mark you calendar for a Town Hall Meeting on Friday, July 31 at 4:30. President Mike Anderson, as well as other individuals who have worked tirelessly on the Casino project, will be updating us all on the status of the building.

Moira and Mark Nordenson have organized a very special event on Saturday, Aug. 1. From 3 to 5:30 p.m., several of Maine’s top ranked tennis players as well as juniors will play matches on our new Har Tru courts. Please come to witness and enjoy some highly competitive tennis by these individuals. While there is no fee for this event donations are kindly accepted.

We are still struggling to have our traditional weekly softball game; hopefully August will see some games being played as Saturday brings in several Ocean Point vacationers.

Ted and Mary Fuller and all their family are here enjoying the weather and summer activities. Mary commented on how wonderful it was to finally be out of the heat of Florida, although we have experienced some pretty hot and humid days here.

Stay cool and have a great week!
