News and Notes from The Community Center

Tue, 01/07/2020 - 1:00pm

There is something wonderful happening at The Center each Friday morning. We have an Open Studio for those who paint, sculpt, draw, print, or express themselves, visually, in any medium. You do not have to be a professional artist to join this group. If all you need is space and materials to make your inner artist speak out, come in and try it out. You may bring an unfinished project and work on it; bring materials to begin a new project; or use any of our materials—free of charge. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Beginning this Friday, Jan. 10, we will be re-opening for Game Night. We plan to be open each Friday from 6 until 9 for cribbage, dominoes, puzzling, backgammon, etc. We might show a movie and there will most certainly be snacks. If you need an evening out after a hard week of work or school, come play with us. Bring the kids if you wish.

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone — men, women and children. Do you want to be supportive but don’t know what to say or do? Domestic abuse is not an easy topic to discuss, but friends, family, and coworkers can learn how to offer support. Mary Hanley, community prevention educator with New Hope For Women, will host a free discussion for adults who would like to learn about domestic and elder abuse on Monday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. Please join us for this very important program.

We are working on adding a yoga program for help with those aging joints and bones. If you are interested, come in or call in to sign up. More information to come. Stay tuned.

Empowered Patients will continue their discussion on reversing dementia through diet and exercise on Tuesday the 14th.

Be sure to call 633-9876 if you have questions about our programs or if you need to borrow durable medical equipment or if you need a ride to the center. We are here for you.
