News and Notes from The Community Center

The Van Trip for November will be this Thursday, the 7th. Don’t forget ... We will leave the Center at 10 a.m. for a trip to Bowdoin College Art Gallery and lunch at Applebee’s. We have room for one or two more so call and get your name on the list.

The Knitters are in need of 16” and 24” circular needles or Double-pointed needles. They have a big project going. They are knitting for the Tiny House Village for Homeless Vets in Portland. If you can spare some needles, drop them by the Center any time.

The Center will close on Monday Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day and re-open as usual on Tuesday.

Calling All Bakers. We need baked goods — pies, cakes, muffins, breads, etc. for our upcoming a Thanksgiving Pie/Bake Sale. Of course, we also need buyers, so put us on your shopping list. The sale will be held on Tuesday Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Also, during that day, we will be selling a huge collection of David Winter Cottages recently donated to us. So, you can buy your Thanksgiving dessert and a Christmas present or two. Please call in and let us know if you plan to bring a pie or other baked item.

We hope you have been seeing the pictures of the Flower Arrangers on Facebook. The class has been hugely successful. All participants are enthusiastic about what they have learned and, if there is demand, we will repeat the classes at a later date.

Thank you to all who have given Coats For Seniors so far. We always need more, so bring them in and we will find good homes for them.

During recent outages we have kept the Center open so that those without power for heat, light, internet, oxygen, or companionship can join us here. Through the winter, whenever there is the need, we will attempt to be the “Storm Home” for those who need it. We will communicate through social media as best we can but do not hesitate to call and check.

Be sure to call 633-9876 if you have questions about our programs or if you need to borrow durable medical equipment or if you need a ride to the center. We are here for you.
