News and Notes from The Community Center

Tue, 09/10/2019 - 1:00pm

This week we are returning to our evening programs for the winter months. Bingo will be offered every other Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m., beginning on Sept. 12. Also, we will be open each Friday for Game Night from 6-9 p.m. Each of these evenings is special in that families can come together and play. Drinks and snacks are available and participants are encouraged to bake and share if they want to. Those who have come in the past tell us that having an affordable, safe, sober place to get out and socialize is important. Drop in one evening and try it on for size!

If you have been troubled by unwanted telephone or email solicitation, please plan to attend the program, Take Control-Learn About Scams, on Monday Sept. 16. Jane Carpenter will be presenting from 2-3 p.m.

On the following day, the 17th, Dr. Paul Shacknow will speak about cataract surgery. That program is presented by the Empowered Patients, a facet of the Health Center and is hosted by The Community Center.

Don’t forget the Red Wagon project for September: the Food Closet at Boothbay Region High School. The wish list includes: Individual mac & cheese, instant oatmeal packages, granola bars, breakfast bars, fruit cups, and trail mix. Loose-leaf notebooks especially needed.

And last, we pause to remember our dear Mollie Pitcher who completed her journey this past week. We were so privileged to have her as part of our team here at The Community Center. We shall miss her bright and shining light.

Be sure to call 633-9876 if you have questions about our programs or if you need to borrow durable medical equipment or if you need a ride to the center. We are here for you.
