The new Barters Island Bridge construction is in its final stage and on track to reopen for traffic Aug. 2, according to Maine Department of Transportation Project Manager Glenn Philbrook. The final stage includes completing painting of the truss, underneath bridge painting touch-ups and endurance testing. Philbrook reported the bridge will be opened and closed several times to check certain components prior to completion.

MDOT is coordinating with Barters Island Community Association to hold an hour-long ribbon-cutting ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 2.
