MUUF recognized as Welcoming Congregation

Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (MUUF) received official recognition as a Welcoming Congregation on April 27. This designation is awarded by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) to congregations that work to actively welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people as full members of the faith community.
In order to be recognized officially as a Welcoming Congregation, MUUF had to document its efforts over the past few years to celebrate diversity, to use inclusive language, to nurture dialogue between people of different sexual orientations and gender identities, and to participate in community outreach with LGBTQ organizations. In his letter informing the MUUF community of the designation, Michael Crumpler of the UUA commended MUUF for understanding that “being recognized as a Welcoming Congregation is a commitment rather than an end point.”
The Fellowship meets every Sunday morning at10:30 a.m. in the Porter Meeting Hall at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta. More information about MUUF’s services is available on the Fellowship’s website (www.uumidcoast.org).
