“Melody in Motion” will be a special evening of music and imagery celebrating children’s sea and science programming at the Boothbay Sea and Science Center (BSSC) and the majestic coastline of Maine.
On Saturday, July 31, Bristol Marine at the Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor (120 Commercial St.) will host Halcyon - one of Midcoast Maine’s premier string quartets featuring violinists Sophie Davis and Josie Davis, Colin Wheatley on viola, and Nora Willauer on cello. Presented by the Boothbay Sea and Science Center, Halcyon will share an evening of music that will pair the melody of the music with the movement of the moment through videography by Luke Fatora.
Sisters, Sophie and Josie have performed in a wide range of venues that include the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Chicago’s Symphony Hall, and the Monte Music Festival in India. An avid chamber musician, Colin Wheatley has performed for members of the Emerson, Pacifica, Cleveland, Concord, and Takcs quartets, and has played in a master class for Yo-Yo Ma. A passionate musician, Nora has performed as a soloist with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, the Liceu Cello Ensemble in Barcelona, and the University of Oregon Symphony Orchestra. Hailing from the mountains of Colorado, Luke’s multimedia work “pairs music with imagery striving towards making abstract experiences more tangible – that draw inspiration from the ability music and imagery have to communicate what fleetingly escapes language.”
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with cash bar and hors d'oeuvres. Music begins at 7 p.m.
Concert committee members Kate Horgan, Deezie Flower, Hillary Friedman, Penny Pollard, and Leanne Pander have planned a memorable evening when we will come together to celebrate our youth, our land, and our sea.
Tickets for the on-site performance are $100 per person (we are limiting ticket sales for the onsite performance to ensure social distancing) and for the livestream performance are $35 individual and $65 group ticket. Proceeds from the concert to benefit BSSC.
