A Wiscasset man with multiple convictions for stalking was arrested Jan. 13 after he allegedly violated the conditions of his probation.

David Spellman, 54, of Wiscasset, was arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office after his parole officer reported that he had allegedly broken the conditions of his probation.

Spellman was convicted on four counts of felony Class C stalking in the Lincoln County Superior Court in 2011 and received a five-year prison sentence, all suspended, with probation. That probation was contingent on Spellman not committing any new crimes.

Before the 2011 conviction, Spellman also had convictions for stalking in June 2006 in the Penobscot County Superior Court, and again in September 2009 in the Sagadahoc County Superior Court in Bath.

According to a report from Bangor Police Officer Christopher Blanchard, on Jan. 9 Spellman is alleged to have left a note with a phone number on a woman's door imploring her to call “Dave.”

The woman, who thought the name and number listed belonged to a relative, called the number and allegedly spoke with Spellman, who reportedly said he was looking for the previous tenants.

Spellman then allegedly began calling the woman repeatedly and asked if the two could meet, and according to the arrest narrative, the woman believed Spellman was trying to ask her out on a date.

The woman reportedly asked Spellman not to call or text, but he allegedly called her 17 times in four days.

The woman then went to the Bangor Police because she was “creeped out” from the incident, according to Blanchard's report.

The victim reportedly told police she was worried that things might escalate, and was also worried because Spellman allegedly knew where she lived. The two did not know each another before the incident.

When Blanchard traced the number, it allegedly came back to Spellman, and upon further investigation found that he was on probation for the previous stalking charges. Blanchard spoke with Parole Officer Kevin Buckmore, then contacted Spellman.

Blanchard reportedly asked Spellman if he knew why he was calling, to which Spellman said that he didn't. Blanchard then issued a harassment order on behalf of the victim.

Shortly thereafter, Buckmore was notified and the hold was placed on Spellman's probation.

Spellman will have a hearing at the Lincoln County Superior Court on Feb. 26 at 10:30 a.m.
