Lincoln County Community Theater (LCCT), the resident theater company of Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater, will be holding auditions for its annual winter musical and this year the show is “9 to 5 The Musical.”
Auditions will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15 and Tuesday, Jan. 16 in Porter Hall at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta. Those planning to audition are requested to bring a brief prepared song. An accompanist will be provided. Questions can also be emailed to email@example.com.
LCCT is excited to announce that this year’s production will be a semi-staged version of “9 to 5 the Musical.” The show, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie, which starred Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Set in the late 1970’s this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.
Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events our heroines - Violet, Judy and Doralee - live out their wildest fantasy: giving their boss the boot! While Hart, the “boss”, remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that has always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?
LCCT is looking to fill various roles in the show as well as to add to its ensemble which, this year is rather appropriately being billed as “The Double-D Singers.” Members of the ensemble are not required to memorize their music.
Rehearsals are held each Sunday afternoon starting in mid-January and performances are scheduled the weekend of Friday April 6 thought Sunday April 8. The production is accompanied by a full orchestra.
After four years of producing classic Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, LCCT took the leap in to the world of musical theater last year and mounted “Mary Poppins.”
We have decided to “let our hair down” this year and are thrilled to be undertaking this joyful, timely, country pop musical under the direction of John Mulcahy. Hoping some of you with “pop chops” will join us for this outing.
