Plein air paintings by artists participating in this summer’s “Paint the Town!” event will be exhibited at the Maine Art Gallery beginning Thursday, Aug. 29.
The exhibit initially features works from the artists’ inventory, but on Saturday it will expand to include newly completed paintings of Wiscasset. The Maine Art Gallery is located at 15 Warren Street, Wiscasset. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday - Saturday. In addition, the gallery will be open on Saturday, Aug. 31 for a reception and sale beginning at 5 p.m.
The artists will start their paintings at locations throughout the village on Thursday morning. Visitors to Wiscasset’s Art Walk may see them at work on Thursday evening. They will continue to paint on Friday and finish up on Saturday morning. The paintings will be hung in the gallery on Saturday afternoon, and they will be for sale at a reception beginning at 5:00 PM. During the reception, awards will be announced, including a people’s choice award for a painting that receives the most votes from the attendees.
Paintings by the plein air artists will be on exhibit only during the three days of this event. The public is encouraged to visit the gallery this week. The next exhibit, Points of View, featuring photography by Bob Bond and Brad Sevaldson opens on Sept. 7.
The Maine Art Gallery is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and preservation of painting, sculpture and graphic arts through exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, and educational programs for children and adults.
