Lady Seahawks get first win

Sophomore Magen Burge came off the bench and scored 13 points, including three three-pointers, to lead the Boothbay Region Seahawks girls basketball team to its first victory of the season, 37-31, at home against Buckfield Wednesday night, Jan. 4.

The low-scoring game saw Boothbay in the lead during the first two quarter breaks, 8-6 and 18-10, but Buckfield managed to outscore the Seahawks, 15-6, in the third quarter to take a 25-24 lead into the final eight minutes.

Burge scored five points in the final quarter and the Seahawks’ defense stepped up to secure the win, outscoring Buckfield 13-6.

Freshman Tatum French added seven points for Boothbay, followed by junior Meg Sledge with six and sophomores Anna Gosselin and Maddie Orchard with four points each.

Sarae Devoe led Buckfield with 13 points, followed by Emma Hooper with seven.

The Seahawks, now 1-6, next host Oak Hill on Friday, Jan. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
