Labor Day event to benefit Wiscasset Public Library

Tue, 08/13/2019 - 9:00am

Friends of the Wiscasset Library invites you to the sixth annual Bands for Books event, 5-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2 at Marianmade Farm in Wiscasset, a lovely scenic setting that includes a large barn and covered patio bordering the Sheepscot River.

The event, organized by the Friends, is the chief yearly fundraiser for the library and always brings out a festive crowd to enjoy the food, music and silent auction. The auction this year will offer a variety of items and experiences including several original paintings, an hourlong scenic coastal airplane flight for three, a case of red and white wine, and gift certificates from several downtown Wiscasset stores, plus certificates for a facial, and a massage.

Each attendee will receive a free ticket for a raffle to win a $50 gift card to Water Street Kitchen and Bar in Wiscasset, donated by the restaurant.

For the third year in a row, the talented band the Salty Dogs is featured. The band plays rock ‘n’ roll music from the 1950s to the 2000s. Dancing is encouraged and the lively music makes it almost impossible not to join in the fun.

For those hungry and thirsty, a variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres prepared by Julie Bellefleur will be offered, and food prepared by Friends of the Library. As usual, there will be a cash bar.

Tickets to the event, at $20 per person, can now be bought at the library at 21 High St. at BIRCH home furnishings and gifts at 72 Main St., or by calling Linda Winterberg on 882-9693. Tickets will also be available, at $25 per person the night of the event at the entrance to the farm on 155 Federal St. in Wiscasset.

The money raised will be used to benefit the library and will be earmarked for a new door at the entry and for painting and sprucing up the area so it becomes a bright and welcoming space for all patrons.

The generous local sponsors include Ames True Value Hardware, First Federal Savings, The First National Bank, and private patron Louana Frois.

So, mark your calendars, get ready to have some fun, and invite your neighbors and friends to join you.
