The faculty and staff at Boothbay Regional Elementary School and the school’s PTO held its first ever Walk-a-Thon Saturday on the football field.

“They are a wonderful group of dedicated parents,” said event organizer Joan Chatterton. Seventh and eighth graders set up the flagged course around the field, said Chatterton. They also manned a refreshments stand, she said.

Entrants got name tags with boxes volunteers marked according to the laps completed. Prizes were awarded based on the number of laps completed. The grand prize was a golden painted shoe for the class with the highest total score, she said.

Many teachers volunteered, said Chatterton.

Proceeds from parents’ pledges will be dedicated to classrooms supplies, field trips and visiting speakers’ expenses, she said.
