Inspired to be thankful

Mon, 03/22/2021 - 2:00pm

    Dear Editor:

Inspired by my friend Pat Young, who is the original “young at heart” woman and therefore a grand optimist, I submit my “thankful” note to you.

Although Mr. Covid limited many of us, other opportunities began popping up.

*Our wonderful St. Andrews Auxiliary volunteers are working at the YMCA vaccine center, some are arranging for snacks for the workers, others finding projects for SAV residents to enjoy, many others still having fun working at our Thrift Shop, still others are making masks.

*The Boothbay Region Garden Club Garden Therapy volunteers have stayed the course by submitting seasonal “kits” for the residents to assemble. Activities Director Jerie Phinney aids completion of these projects in our absence.

*New friends become old friends when membership lists are divided up, check-in calls placed regularly and perhaps make someone smile, add in several good stories too! Thank you Auxiliary.

*Nathan’s Pharmacy has stepped up to help distribute home medical devices while the Community Center is temporarily closed. A good neighbor for sure!

*Our neighbors and friends have dropped off flowers, chicken soup, homemade bread and cookies, too.

*Another neighbor dropped off our mail during our confinement.

*Yet another neighbor regularly asked for a grocery list, shopped and delivered.

*My wonderful nurse/daughter visited. She cooked, reminisced through endless pictures and put up with our endless Covid questions. Quite the girl!

We are so absolutely blessed to be in the best place to be during this pandemic. Please keep wearing your masks, get out when you can and enjoy our beautiful peninsula.

Happily getting along with a little help from everywhere it seems. Thank you to all!

    Irene and Lou Gerny

    Boothbay

    P.S. Joe Gelarden, write on!
