Infringing on gun ownership

Dear Editor:

Infringe: verb; to commit a breach or infraction of; violate or transgress:

Apparently, many members of Congress do not understand this definition, especially the ranking members in the Democrat party. It is no real surprise given that our Dotard in Chief has never understood it. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee continues to push a bill, HR 127, which would impose onerous taxes and fees on law abiding gun owners. With 16 separate items including magazine capacity limits and a ban on modern sporting rifles, i.e., “assault weapons” it is the definition of the word. A bill just passed in the House which would see background checks on the private sale of firearms and Senator Dianne Feinstein, nearly as doddering as our newly minted President has dusted of her “assault weapons” bill once again. This time she is using “domestic terrorism” as her cause du jour.

All these measures do nothing to solve the issues used to promote them. Violent crime is driven by gang and drug business. Long guns of any description used in violent crime are a small part of the crime statistic in America. The progressive politicians with the assistance of an agenda driven media have lied continuously to try and convince the public that there is in the hands of every violent felon an AR 15 with a 30-round magazine. It just is not true. It is also a lie that “Universal Background Checks will have any effect on the number of firearms in the hands of criminals. Those myths were debunked here in Maine in 2016 and a similar bill was soundly defeated. These bills do nothing but “infringe” on the guaranteed right of the American people to keep and bear arms.

These efforts are simply a steppingstone to the true purpose of the anti-Second Amendment lobby, the complete and total dismantling of private gun ownership of any kind in America. They will stop at nothing to achieve that goal.
